Christian Roche (Managing Director), DipPFS, CertPFS (DM)
Christian has over 25 years of experience in the Financial services industry, having started with Pearl Assurance as a Financial Consultant quickly qualifying as a senior financial consultant then taking up a management position with Royal Sun Alliance.
Chris formed Portfolio Financial Consultancy in 1999, before incorporating as a limited company in 2002.
He holds the Diploma in Financial Planning, and was one of the first advisers in the country to hold the Certificate in Discretionary Investment Management.
Based in Swansea, Chris has a long-standing client base predominantly throughout the South West Wales.
He has a wealth of experience and is able to offer independent advice and guidance to both high net worth individuals, company directors and professional connections across a wide range of financial planning areas, but specialises in strategic investment planning, portfolio design and wealth management along with trust, estate and tax planning.
Chris also has many years of experience of Court of Protection work in particular compensation claims and inheritance tax mitigation, and has built an extensive network of trusted professional advisers and clients.
Chris is a water sports enthusiast and you can often find him spending his free time at any one of his local beaches in Gower. He enjoys walking, running and the gym, and also his latest hobby, stand up paddle boarding.
Originally from Neath in South Wales, now lives in Langland with his family and 2 bulldogs enjoying the beach life.
Gareth Jones (Finance and Operations Director), MCMI, MLIBF, DipFA, PETR
Gareth joined Portfolio 2012, being appointed a director in October 2013 and is responsible for financial, operational and compliance matters along with ensuring the smooth running of the company.
He has a wealth of experience in financial services and management in large organisations, having started his career at NatWest Bank, before taking senior roles with the Probation Service and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. He returned to the financial services industry in 2008, managing a large firm of IFAs based in South Wales.
He is a Member of the London Institute of Banking & Finance holding the Diploma for Financial Advisers (DipFA) and Award in Pension Transfers (PETR) and is continuing to work towards Chartered status. He also holds professional qualifications in management accountancy via the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute.
Gareth is married with 3 children, whom he claims take up much of his time outside of work. In his remaining free time, he regularly trains in the gym at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport. Other pastimes include reading conspiracy novels, listening to an eclectic range of music, cooking and travelling.
Trudie Nichols (Financial Adviser) DipPFS
Trudie joined Portfolio in 2013 after 26 years with Abbey National and Santander, the last 11 years in the role of Financial Adviser.
Trudie holds a Diploma in Financial Advice and is able to offer expert advice and guidance in all financial areas but specialises in pensions, investments, and estate planning.
She likes to build long lasting business relationships with all her clients and emphasises the benefits of regular reviews.
Based in Swansea, Trudie looks after clients across the Neath, Port Talbot and Swansea areas.
Trudie enjoys travelling, having visited many exotic locations, and dedicates much of her free time to looking after her granddaughter.
Nigel Beech (Financial Adviser), BA (Hons), DipPFS
Nigel joined Portfolio in 2011 and has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry, having worked for many years as a Financial Planner in South East England.
Based from the Swansea office, Nigel covers Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Powys. Nigel holds the Diploma in Financial Planning and is a member of the Personal Finance Society and the Chartered Insurance Institute.
He is able to offer independent advice and guidance to individuals and companies across a wide range of financial planning areas, but specialises in private and group pensions, investments, family/business protection, IHT mitigation and estate planning.
Nigel is a keen scuba diver, predominantly around the Pembrokeshire coast, but also enjoys skiing, kayaking, camping, the gym and walks with the family dog.
Stuart Davis (Financial Adviser), BSc (Hons), DipPFS
Stuart joined Portfolio in January 2016 from a national advice firm having started his career there directly after graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2009. Stuart progressed rapidly through financial planning diploma studies and fully qualified as a Financial Adviser in 2010.
He has excellent technical knowledge across all areas of financial planning, and holds the Advanced Pension Planning qualification (AF3) from the Chartered Insurance Institute as part of his progress towards becoming a Chartered Financial Planner.
He predominately advises clients with complex financial planning requirements often in the area of retirement planning and Occupational Pension Transfers.
Outside of work Stuart likes to keep active particularly enjoying mountain biking, walking with the dog and generally being out in the countryside.
Andrew Dallas (Financial Adviser), ACII, DipPFS
Andrew (Andy) was the founder of A W Dallas Financial Services Ltd which was acquired by Portfolio in June 2017. He has joined Portfolio on a part-time basis to ensure a smooth integration of the companies, and brings with him many years’ experience of advising personal and corporate clients.
He holds both an Advanced Diploma in Insurance as well as the G60 Pension Transfer qualification.
Outside of work Andy enjoys spending lots of time with his family in particular his three young grandchildren. He is also involved in his local Church in West Cross Swansea and is an avid Swansea City fan. His interests include: travel, gardening, reading and wine tasting.
Paul Lockwood BSc (Econ), MA, CeFA, CeMAP, DipFA (Financial Adviser)
Paul joined Portfolio in June 2019 after spending 10 years with Santander. He has worked in finance and insurance since leaving Aberystwyth university with a degree in Political Studies and holds a level 4 Diploma in Financial Advice.
He also holds a Masters degree in Philosophy from the Open University.
He is passionate about offering quality face to face independent advice to all his clients and likes to explain things in a friendly and simple way.
He is married and live in Llanelli with his wife and 3 young children.
In what little spare time he has, he enjoys listening to records, watching films and reading.
He is currently studying towards the Level 6 Chartered qualification.
Mark Robinson (Customer Relationship Manager)
Mark came to work for Portfolio in October 2018, his previous experience includes 10 years as a Manager at Pearl Assurance. Initially starting out as an agent he worked through his Financial Planning Certificates to manage a successful team in the Neath Port Talbot area.
Mark has excellent knowledge within all areas of financial planning. His main focus within Portfolio is as our Customer Relationship Manager, primarily dealing with Estate planning (Power of Attorney and Will writing). To further his knowledge in this area, Mark recently undertook a course with the Society of Will Writers.
Outside of work Mark is a UEFA qualified football coach, he has worked for the FAW and managed for many years in the Welsh Premier League. Football plays a big part in his life and his family have an active role in supporting him as General Manager at Afan Lido Football Club.
Jeff Brown (Client Relations Manager)
Jeff joined Portfolio Financial Consultancy at inception in 2002 in the role of Financial Adviser.
He retired in 2009, and whilst unable to provide financial advice to clients, he still carries out an ambassadorial and introducer role for the company.
Paul Thomas (Business Support Executive)
Paul joined Portfolio in December 2017 bringing with him a wealth of Financial Service experience having for the last 13 years been the Administration Manager of another local IFA. Previous to that he had 20 years working for AEGON in offices in North London and Cardiff fulfilling a number of supervisory roles.
Paul has responsibility for monitoring delivery of our service proposition, working closely with the Directors, Advisers and Client Relationship team to ensure that regular reviews are conducted, and our clients’ investment portfolios remain appropriate to agreed financial planning objectives. He also liaises with product providers to ensure accuracy of information held and driving forward projects that improve the efficiency and operational performance of our systems.
In his spare time Paul enjoys travelling having recently been to Nepal, Patagonia, and Namibia. He also plays and coaches at Swansea Hockey Club.
Craig Lewis (Client Relationship Officer)
Craig joined Portfolio in 2011. He started his financial services career in 2004, and has worked in several busy IFA practices. Craig supports the advisers to ensure that all work is undertaken in a compliant and consistent manner, and all within agreed timescales. He is the liaison between clients and the advisers and plays a key role in the successful delivery of our Client Proposition. He is also a designated First Aider within the office.
Craig is currently working towards Certificate level financial services qualifications.
He is a supporter of Manchester United, enjoys European city breaks, rock concerts and is also a big WWE fan.
Tanya Richards (Client Relationship Officer)
Tanya joined Portfolio in 2013, having had 13 years’ experience in the financial services industry. She brought with her much experience in supporting Independent Financial Advisers having been employed in similar roles with other local IFA practices. Tanya is part of the Client Relationship Team that supports all of our advisers and plays a key role in the delivery of our Client Proposition.
Tanya holds the Financial Planning Certificate, and is currently studying towards Diploma in Financial Planning.
In her spare time Tanya enjoys swimming, reading, cinema/theatre, camping and walking her two Collies.
Claire Jarrett (Client Relationship Officer)
Claire joined Portfolio in 2012, having for the previous 15 years worked in the financial services industry, much of which was spent as Office Manager at another local IFA practice.
Claire is part of the Client Relationship Team that supports all of our advisers and plays a key role in the successful delivery of our Client Proposition.
In her spare time Claire spends time with her family and enjoys walking her dog.
Kathryne (Kat) Morris (Client Relationship Officer)
Kat joined Portfolio in July 2010, having started her career with Legal & General as a Team Manager, then went onto work for Lloyds TSB/HBOS and subsequently working as an Operations Co-ordinator in an IFA practice.
Kat provides support to all our advisers, to ensure that all work is undertaken in a compliant and consistent manner, and all within agreed timescales. She is the liaison between clients and the advisers and is key to the delivery of our Client Proposition.
Kat is a qualified Sports Therapist Practitioner, and otherwise enjoys travelling and socialising with her young family.
Rachel Davies (Business Support Officer)
Rachel joined Portfolio as an apprentice in September 2015 after leaving college. She had previously worked in client facing roles in retail, where she developed her excellent customer service skills.
During her apprenticeship she passed qualifications in Business Administration, and in 2018 completed her Certificate in Paraplanning & Financial Administration and is now studying towards the Diploma in Financial Services.
Rachel is a designated First Aider and provides day-to day support to advisers and staff across the office, and regularly provides support to the directors on project-based tasks.
In her spare time Rachel enjoys going to the gym, socialising and travelling.
Jared Thomas (Business Support Officer) BA (Hons)
Jared joined Portfolio as a Business Support Officer in May 2018 after leaving the Ministry of Justice where he held an administrative officer role. He had previously worked for FFT Education, a non-profit organisation as a Finance Assistant and as well as having previous IFA experience.
He holds a 1st Class (BA) Hons Degree in Accounting and Finance from Cardiff Metropolitan University where he graduated in 2015 and is studying toward the Chartered Insurance Institutes’ Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.
In his spare time Jared enjoys exercising, reading and watching Cardiff City FC.
Rachel Paduch (Personal Assistant to MD)
Rachel joined the Portfolio team in September 2018, as Personal Assistant to the Managing Director.
Her role is extremely varied, supporting the MD in all his daily business and personal needs and also having responsibilities for carrying out various office related tasks.
Rachel works on a part time basis with Portfolio combining this with a caring role for a close family member.
She has a wealth of experience in all aspects of office management and PA work having previously held the similar roles at both Tata Steel and Welsh Water.
Most of Rachel’s spare time is spent riding her horse and competing in various different competitions, she also very much enjoys travelling and taking her dog on long walks.
Charlie Hinder (Administration Assistant)
Charlie joined Portfolio as an apprentice in June 2019. Before this he had complete an Extended Diploma in Business Level 3 at College.
He has previously worked in client facing roles in retail and banking, where he developed excellent customer service and IT skills.
Charlie provides support to the Directors, Advisers and all administration staff across the office on project-based tasks.
In his spare time, he plays football and bowls, at which he has represented Wales at an international level and played in County finals.
